The court heard how Jama wrongly thought Mr Hassan had mugged his older brother Musa Jama, 22, who the jurors found not guilty of murder and not guilty of manslaughter.

And a third defendant, Sadik Djama, 23, was also acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges.

The court heard the trio went to Oldham, Greater Manchester, on March 9 on a revenge mission for the robbery on Musa Jama the day previous.

The killer then confronted Mr Hassan and attacked him with the blade, before washing blood off his hands at Oldham Library.

The brothers, both from Oldham, and Mr Djama, of Longsight, Manchester, pleaded not guilty to murder.

Paying tribute to Mr Hassan at the time of his death, his close friend Mohammed Jaz, 23, said: He had been to pray and was going home, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was a normal 22-year-old, it could have been anyone.
