Ex-Grange Hill star John Alford denies attacking police after hijacking bin lorry

Former Grange Hill and Londons Burning star John Alford has denied that he attacked two police officers during an incident in which he allegedly hijacked and damaged a bin lorry.

The actor, 46, gave his name as John James Walker Shannon as he appeared in the dock at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court today.

He told the hearing in north London that Alford was a stage name.

He pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault on a police officer and guilty to a charge of criminal damage to a refuse collection vehicle belonging to Camden Council.

The charges stem from an incident in Holloway, north London, on September 1.

Police were called at around 7.30am after the actor allegedly got behind the wheel of the bin lorry.

John became famous for playing Robbie Right on Grange Hill.

Following his shock departure, he moved on to become a regular on ITVs Londons Burning series playing Billy Ray.

He has been unconditionally bailed to appear for trial at the same court on November 29.
