A man who repeatedly stamped on a womans head outside her flat has been jailed for the drunken attack.

The four had met at a Birmingham park where they drank alcohol together in the hours before the attack.

By the time they got back to the flat, the atmosphere had changed and Harrop was verbally aggressive to Mr OConnor, who felt intimidated, a court heard.

Without warning, Harrop punched Mr OConnor in the face, causing him to fall to the floor where he kicked him in the head about five times, the court was told.

Nicholas Berry, prosecuting, said the two women then began to fight and when Harrop saw, he grabbed Miss Pounds hair and swung her around, causing her to fall to the ground.

The fight moved outside where Harrop banged Miss Pounds head on a car bonnet, leaving her with a broken nose and cheek bone.

He then hit her head and face multiple times before returning to stamp on her head at least ten times, the court heard.

Miss Pound tried to get up but collapsed and an ambulance was called.

Before it arrived, Harrop and Feeney trashed Miss Pounds home, throwing paint around a room, the prosecutor said.

Harrop, from Selly Oak, previously admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm, assault and criminal damage and was sentenced to six-and-a-half years.

Feeney, from Halesowen, was handed an 18-month community order after pleading guilty to battery and criminal damage.

Passing sentence, Judge Patrick Thomas QC said he accepted it was out of character for Harrop, who had felt particularly low at the time.

But he went on: You caused her a significant injury in the course of an extremely unpleasant attack.

This was a disgraceful incident.
