A mum-of-one is thought to be one of the youngest people in Britain ever to have been diagnosed with dementia.

Rachel Potter was just 31 when she was diagnosed with the condition, normally associated with older people, in 2016.

Two years on, Rachel, now 33, needs visits from carers twice and day and is unable to write or walk without help.

Doctors told Kev they believe Rachel, who has Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker syndrome, a degenerative condition that affects the nervous system, is one of the youngest people in Britain to have dementia.

Rachels mum, who requires around-the-clock care, has the condition, and her grandfather died six months after he was diagnosed with it.

Brooke may follow suit – but will only know if she is carrying the gene if she elects to take a test, which she can only do once she is 18.

Kev described her future health as a ticking time bomb in our family.

He added: The condition is so fluid, its like a wave. We have good days and bad days.

Kev described how Rachels condition has affected her over the last two years (Picture: Caters)

We took her on a holiday recently and Rachel said she was walking to a shop which we could see directly in front of where we were staying.

Half an hour went by and we didnt see her. We were starting to get worried so I ended up calling security who eventually found her after two hours.

She was very upset. Rachel walked past the caravan after getting lost.

There have been a few other instances when Ive taken her out and parked close by to wherever were going and shes come out, looked at the car with me sat in it and walked away, completely lost.
