An anonymous group have ripped down a rainbow flag from outside a police station before sending hate mail boasting of that they did.
Humberside Police is investigating after it happened overnight at Bridlington Police station.
Abusive emails were then sent to the Chief Constable, the Police and Crime Commissioner and the chair of the Hull and East Riding LGBT Forum, Andy Train, threatening to do it again.
It was the first time Humberside Police had flown the rainbow flag – a symbol of pride and diversity – from its buildings and the flag was pulled down and then removed from the site.
A group calling themselves Men of Bridlington have claimed to have done it.
Mr Train received an abusive email in the early hours of Sunday, and said: I spoke to Humberside Police and straight away they said it is a hate crime and that I was not to forward it.

I suspect the person that did this has a lot of personal issues.
This is damage to police property and its such a shame as we have such a good relationship with the police – they have been top notch to us.
All the language used in the email is all hateful, this is a potential hate crime.
The full contents of the email, which was sent on Sunday morning, have not been released, however Mr Train has issued a direct response to those who sent it.

Speaking to the group behind the attack, Mr Train said: You are sad bigots and have attitudes that are well out of sync with modern society and the real world.
All this does is emphasise the importance of why we hold events like Pride and will continue to do so in the future.
No heterosexual person wakes up in a morning and is worried about going to work because of their sexual orientation. This is why we will continue the work we are doing
Mr Train has urged anyone who has information about Men of Bridlington to contact Humberside Police on 101.
