Second teenage girl taken to hospital after 14-year-old died after taking drugs

A second teenage girl was taken to hospital after a 14-year-old died on Wednesday after taking drugs.

Emergency services were called to the address in Greasby, Wirral, at around 1.45am to reports that Bethany Devlin-McCrone had collapsed.

It is believed she then died from either an overdose or an adverse reaction to a controlled substance.

Police have today confirmed that a second 14-year-old girl was taken to hospital following the incident as a precaution.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: A second 14-year-old girl was taken to hospital as a precaution following the incident in Greasby on Wednesday.

She has since been discharged.

It is not clear if the two girls were together at the time of the incident but it is thought that the second girl also attends Hilbre High School where Bethany was a pupil.

Bethanys parents Sean, 35, and Angela, 32, have issued a tribute to their daughter.

They said: We are heartbroken to have lost our princess Bethany at such a young age, under such tragic circumstances. Her death will leave a gaping hole in everyones lives.

Bethany loved life and, when she entered a room, you knew about it. She was so bubbly and cheeky, but extremely loving and caring too, and had a heart of gold. Her brothers adore her.

Just hours after her tragic death police issued an urgent warning to parents to talk to their children about the risks of drugs.

They said: We would ask every single parent, talk to your children.

When they are having sleepovers, when they are with their friends, when they are going to parties, when they are going to the park, talk to your children.

Give them the confidence to say no.

Two men and a boy arrested after the drugs death have been released on bail.
