A woman says she has lost a bit of her life after losing her mobile phone that contained the only recording of her late husbands voice.

Donna Butters is desperate to be reunited with the phone after it went missing a month after the tenth anniversary of Robert Lathams death.

He died in a motorcycle crash in early May 2008, aged just 41.

Before his death, he sent a message to Donna aimed at one of their then infant daughters.

It was so special that Donna, 47, had saved the voicemail message to her memory card at the time.

She said: I think Id told him one of them was ill and he said “give her a big kiss from me”.

It was nice to have something to hear his voice. It was the only voice recording of my late husband.

Its like losing a bit of yourself. Its like losing a bit of your life, there was so much personal stuff on the phone, she told Leicestershire Live.

A widow has lost the only recording of her late husband?s voice which she had cherished for the last decade since his death. The message, saved from a voicemail shortly before his passing, was on a mobile phone she last saw on Friday. Donna Butters, 47, realised she did not have her Samsung J5 in the early afternoon. On a memory card on the device she had saved a message to one of their then infant daughters, from husband Robert Latham. This was sent before he died in a motorbike accident, aged just 41.

As well as the message which was sent by Robert while he was away working as a lorry driver, there was also a mix of family photos and pictures he had taken.

Donna, who lives in Leicestershire, said: Unfortunately Im not a great fan of having my photo taken so theres hardly any pictures of us together anyway, which is why the heart one was quite special.

The trouble with phone pictures is you never really get them printed properly.

Grandson stole every last penny of his grandmother's life savings

The Samsung J5 went missing on Friday and normally Donnas files are backed up on a memory card – but she was in the midst of transferring photos to a new computer when the phone went missing and hadnt backed it up.

Donna, who volunteers for Cats Protection and rescues stray animals across Leicester, had just dropped off some kittens at an animal sanctuary when she realised she no longer had her phone.

When she asked someone to call her it rang out as unavailable.

I was instantly gutted, she said.

Donna says her daughters, Dennie and Georgie, now 13 and 15, were so young when their father passed away that they do not have lots of memories of him.

The recording and pictures helped them to remember him.

In a post on Facebook, Donna appealed for anyone who might have seen the phone, or might have it themselves, to give it back.

I dont care about the value of the phone, I just want my personal belongings back which I can never replace, she wrote.

I want to be able to give my children the only recording I have of their dad.

Id really appreciate if you hand it in somewhere.

Its not just a phone that means a few quid to someone.

I cant replace it.
