Boys put into detention for wearing dresses tell their side of the story
The schoolboys were out into detention for wearing the bodycon dresses

A group of schoolboys who wore dresses on the last day of Year 11 have spoken out after they were put in detention because they offended teachers.

The boys, aged 15 and 16, squeezed into skimpy bodycon dresses which they wore with trainers and sports socks, and posed for a Kim Kardashian-style group picture.

But their antics were met with disapproval from the school, Ysgol Gyfun Gymunedol Penweddig, in Aberystwyth, North Wales, and the 13 boys were put in detention for the entire day.

The boys who changed their clothes were allowed back to lessons.

One of the boys said: After we had all changed and prepared in the morning we entered expecting a regular school day, but were instantaneously met with disapproval of one of the head staff.

Far-right and anti-fascist protesters face off at 'freedom of speech' rally

The school says that pupils were warned their fancy dress party should specifically avoid offending other pupils or be seen to offend the wider community.

In a statement Ceredigion County Council said: All pupils were told prior to the fancy dress day by their registration teacher that they should dress appropriately and that they should specifically avoid offending other pupils or be seen to offend the wider community.

The pastoral head of Year 11 specifically reinforced this message and spoke with all the pupils in Year 11 before the day to reinforce this message.

The pupils in question chose not to respect this and undermined the trust placed in them by the school.

As such, they undermined the school and its core values of respect for authority and for the wider school community.
