Aoibhin Garrihy’s Co Clare – ‘the perfect playground for an outdoor enthusiast’

When we want to get away for the weekend, we head to the west Clare coast. Of course we stay in the Armada Hotel, which was started by John's late father and John now runs. While it will always be a place of work for John, it always feels like a treat for me. We love Vaughan's Anchor Inn in Liscannor for a quiet bite for dinner. The food is always second to none.

I love getting out in the fresh air, and west Clare is the perfect playground for an outdoor enthusiast. In the summer, my favourite pastimes are kayaking and cliff-jumping! There are some incredible sea caves to explore, particularly at White Strand. Our French mastiffs love the beach in winter, when they have the run of it!

Saturday night is always best spent in Doolin. It's the traditional-music capital of Ireland and you are guaranteed a great session, no matter where you go. The pub grub is always great, and a warm welcome from Patsy and Stephen in McDermott's pub is the cherry on top!

I love brunch on Sunday, and when John is working, I will spin by Johnny Burke's pub in the Armada for the cure! The weekend brunch is just what the doctor ordered after a weekend in the west. Randaddy's in Lahinch also does a delicious weekend breakfast, and a walk along the prom is sure to blow off any unwanted cobwebs!
