We all love Nando’s, but sometimes it’s just easier to recreate the menu at home, to save some money and braving the cold weather.
But it turns out recreating a Nando’s might be easier than you think – in fact, you might already have one of their ingredients in the freezer.
What is that ingredient, you ask? McCain chips.
Yep, apparently, Nando’s uses frozen oven chips. You know, the £2 ones that can be found in pretty much every supermarket ever.
In a recent article on Leicester Mercury, one Nando’s employee revealed that Nando’s uses standard oven chips, alongside a whole load of the restaurant’s secrets.
They wrote: ‘The chips served at Nando’s are actually supplied by McCain.
‘So you could recreate part of the Nando’s experience at home quite easily if you wanted to.’
Of course, we had to ask Nando’s about their frozen chips. A spokesperson for the chicken restaurant said: ‘As per standard industry practice, some of our non-meat items are delivered frozen, such as our hugely popular chips which we developed in partnership with McCain and are exclusive to Nando’s.’
Alongside the McCain chips revelation, the employee also revealed that the chicken Nando’s uses is not organic, and that it comes into restaurants pre-marinated.
They also said quite a lot of dishes – including macho peas and pitta breads – come in frozen, and that Nando’s staff have their own favourite off-the-menu items.
The employee said: ‘With a staff meal every five hours, it doesn’t take long to work your way through the Nando’s menu.
‘This is where ordering off-menu comes in.
‘Some of our favourites included the Nando’s burrito – a chicken wrap filled with spicy rice – and huge salads topped with grilled chicken, pineapple, halloumi, and all of the sauce.’
We know what we’ll be asking for next time we go to Nando’s.
