A man is facing jail after he spent £6,000 of his dead neighbours money on pepperoni pizza.

Robert Sharkey, 24, from Bangor, Northern Ireland, noticed 68-year-old Marie Conlons post piling up in the communal flats in January 2015.

When he kicked the door of her flat in to investigate, he noticed her handbag and took £50 from it, claiming to be worried about money.

He said he did not call the police when he found her body because he was worried about being on probation after previously being convicted of disorderly behaviour.

He later memorised the details on Ms Conlons bank card, and another one which was issued two months later.

Belfast Crown Court was told he would order the same nine-inch pepperoni and anchovy pizza and two tins of juice for delivery from Dominos Pizza each day.

His order was so regular the staff at the pizza restaurant nicknamed him the fish guy.

Over the two years he had her card he spent £6,000 on pizzas, and would use a different SIM card to avoid discovery.

In total, he defrauded Ms Conlons estate of £11,700.

Ms Conlon was described as an extremely private person who did not keep in touch with her family, who did attend the hearing, and her body lay in her flat in Poleglass, west Belfast, for two years without being discovered.

Sharkey even paid the bills on her flat to avoid detection, Belfast Live reports.

Judge Piers Grant branded Sharkeys actions as a wicked, wicked series of offences against a decent woman who was clearly vulnerable because of her age.

He added: Prepare yourself on the basis a custodial sentence will almost likely be imposed.

Sharkey admitted to preventing the lawful burial of a corpse on dates between August 2015 and October 2017, breaking into her house and stealing items, and six counts of fraud by false representation.

He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on October 19.
