The man who attacked Katie Piper with acid is being considered for parole, it has been confirmed.

Stefan Sylvestre was given a life sentence for the 2008 attack and ordered to serve a minimum of six years.

Sylvestre, who was 20 when he was sentenced, has served nine years of this.

But the Parole Board has said a decision will be made in "the coming weeks" over whether he should be released.

A Parole Board spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a panel of the Parole Board has considered the parole review for Stefan Sylvestre and expect to receive the panel's decision in the coming weeks.

"We are unable to comment further on the individual details of this case."

Ms Piper, 34, was left partially blind and with severe, permanent scarring after Sylvestre threw sulphuric acid in her face.

The attack was ordered by her former partner Daniel Lynch, who also raped the aspiring model and TV presenter.

Lynch, who was 33 at the time, was also jailed for life, with a minimum of 16 years.
