GoPro captures moment cyclist falls down near-vertical drop and breaks his jaw

Terrifying GoPro footage shows the moment a mountain biker falls down a near-vertical drop and breaks his jaw.

Frankie Gray, 24, was seriously injured after he landed on his face while riding at Danbury Common in Danbury, Essex, last Thursday.

The car salesman is still feeling the effects of concussion more than a week after the crash.

The terrifying episode was captured on a GoPro that Frankie, from Rowhedge, Essex, was wearing when he slammed into the ground.

He said: I hate watching it. It feels so scary.

The first time I watched it really hit home, seeing myself unconscious. I couldnt breathe.

Fortunately for Frankie, his friend Ben Browning quickly came to his aid and put him in the recovery position before calling the emergency services.

The footage is so clear that you can hear Frankies sharp breaths and moans of pain.

On the day of the shocking accident, Frankie and his friends Ben, Adam and Todd headed to Danbury for a bike ride.

Frankie continued: We met up with Adam and his friend Todd. They are both really experienced, but me and Ben are not.

Todd fell off halfway round and had a paramedic come out. Adam went with him in the ambulance but Ben and I carried on.

We went off alone and started picking up some pace. We took a wrong turn and went off a vertical drop.

The next thing Frankie remembers is waking up in an ambulance.

The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) had to be called in order to reach Frankie using specialist equipment in the tough terrain.

Frankie added: They came out in an off-road buggy.

It took two-and-a-half hours to get me out of the forest. I found out the next day it was the HART team who rescued me.

Frankie was immediately taken to Broomfield Hospital where doctors conducted a CT scan and made sure he was not in any danger.

Frankie said: I was home for one day and kept on getting migraines.

My jaw was hurting a lot. I called and explained my circumstances and they sent an ambulance to take me to Colchester A&E.

I was there with my dad and doctors did an X-ray. They found out Id fractured my jaw.

He was also found to be suffering from a prolonged concussion.

Frankie also suffered a painful burn mark across his arm and up to his shoulder.

On Tuesday, Frankie visited his doctor and discovered he had also broken his elbow.

Looking back on the incident, he is grateful for the help provided by the emergency services.

Frankie said: I want to thank the team who got me out of there and Ben for being so calm. I was lucky he was with me.

It was quite an ordeal. A&E also gets a lot of bad press but they were amazing.

I have been signed off work for a week so hopefully I can go back. Im still in agony but Im hoping it will heal soon. I was so lucky.
